Cedar Rapids man arrested after shots fired incident

A Cedar Rapids man was arrested after an incident at a bar early Sunday where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault another patron and discharged a handgun in the air.

According to Cedar Rapids Police, 28-year-old Johnny Gonzalez was at the establishment on the 200 block of 2nd Avenue SE when he was confronted by patrons after an attempt to sexually assault someone at the bar.  The altercation moved outside, and Gonzalez allegedly fired a handgun in the air.

Cedar Rapids Police responded immediately and arrested Gonzalez after an on-scene investigation and interviews with witnesses.  He faces numerous charges, including carrying a firearm while intoxicated, two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, reckless use of a firearm, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, interference with official acts and public intoxication. If convicted on all charges, Gonzalez could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
