A Cedar Rapids family escaped a home fire overnight, but have been displaced.
According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of K Street SW on reports of smoke filling the upstairs of a single-family dwelling. Once they arrived on scene, smoke was showing from the eaves of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire, within a wall on the second floor.
One adult and two children were in the home at the time and were able to evacuate the home safely. No injuries were reported to either the family or firefighters.
Smoke alarms were reportedly working in the structure to alert the occupants of the fire.
Moderate fire and smoke damage to the second floor was enough to displace the family. Damage estimates were not available, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
