Iowa City Police say a Washington County woman was drunk when she fled the scene of a Friday afternoon accident with a six-year-old in her car.
According to arrest records, 28-year-old Jade Thornton of Washington fled from an accident scene on Hollywood Boulevard just after 2:30. Her 2004 Honda Accord was pulled over near the intersection of Sandusky Drive and Broadway Street just after 3:00. Police say Thornton showed signs of intoxication, claimed to have only had two shots, and repeatedly mentioned she was drunk.
A half-empty bottle of Hawkeye Vodka was found inside the vehicle, as was Thornton’s six-year-old child. Thornton’s breath alcohol level was measured at .265%.
Thornton was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of three years in jail.
