A suspect is accused of using a rock and scissors…but not paper…in an assault that started with a dispute over hair care products.
Iowa City Police say the alleged victim was styling the hair of 21-year-old Daizha Armstead of Sioux City just before noon Friday when she told Armstead she couldn’t do the hairstyle she wanted. Armstead reportedly got upset about non-refundable hair care products and was told to leave the stylist’s Kirkwood Avenue apartment. Armstead then allegedly began pounding on the woman’s door. When the woman opened the door to tell Armstead to leave, Armstead allegedly tried to hit her with a rock in a sock before the woman shut the door again. Armstead then reportedly broke the door down and fled. Markings on the door led the alleged victim to believe Armstead may have stabbed it repeatedly with a knife. A guard for a knife was found outside the door, and the resident suffered a scrape to her leg where the door fell into her.
Police say Armstead was found a short time later in possession of a rock in a sock, a pair of scissors, and a small amount of marijuana.
Armstead is charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 28 years in prison.
