An Iowa City woman has been arrested after her three-year-old boy was reportedly found wandering down the street carrying a loaded firearm.
Iowa City Police say the child was found carrying a handgun with a full magazine on a sidewalk along Vesti Lane just after 7:45 Friday night. A passerby took the gun before the child’s mother, identified as 31-year-old Samantha Hall, grabbed the child and brought him back to her Vesti Lane residence.
Hall told responding officers that she had been cleaning the house when the boy walked away unnoticed. She claimed she keeps the handgun on the nightstand and had no idea the child had taken it.
Hall is charged with Making Firearms Available to a Minor and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of three years in jail.
