The Iowa Board of Regents have given the okay on a $74 million expansion of the University of Iowa Health Care’s maternity unit.

The project includes the renovation of the 7th level of the Pappajohn Pavilion to compliment the build out of the 7th floor at the neighboring Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Officials say the project is necessary due to the current space at or near capacity on most days, and the increased lack of access to obstetric care across the state.

Also at the Regent meeting, UI President Barbara Wilson and ISU President Wendy Wintersteen both received $60,000 increases, bringing their total salaries to $760,000 and $710,000 a year, respectively.

UNI President Mark Nook will see his salary increase by $25,000 to $397,110. The board also renewed his employment agreement and amended his deferred compensation plan to extend both through June 30, 2027. The compensation plan will contribute $100,000 to Nook annually from July 1, 2025 until its end date.
