Students will be paying more to attend the University of Iowa, Iowa State and the University of Northern Iowa this year.

The state Board of Regents unanimously approved a three-percent tuition hike for all three universities at their meeting Thursday.

The increase is slightly less than the 3 ½ percent increase the Regents approved for the 2023-24 school year.

The Regents cited rising costs and underfunding from the state. The board asked for a $14.8 million increase in general funding, but the legislature agreed to a $12.3 million increase.

In dollar amounts, undergraduates at the University of Iowa will pay $9286. Non-residents will pay $31,374.

Additional tuition increases will be imposed on students at the College of Law, the Carver College of Medicine, and the College of Pharmacy.  Mandatory fees for campus services including health care, technology, mental health resources and student activities are going up 2.5 percent and will cost each student nearly $2000.
