A Coralville man wanted on a willful injury charge for nearly a year was taken into custody over the weekend.

According to the initial arrest report of July 30th 2023, 26-year-old Maurice Yarbrough of Sweeting Lane was on the 100 block of South Clinton Street at around 2:15 am when he punched the victim in the face without justification. The force of the blow knocked the victim’s front tooth out.

Afterwards, Yarbrough allegedly posted a photo on his Twitter account of his hands, which had cuts consistent with striking the victim’s teeth, and bragged about knocking the victim’s tooth out.  Police at  the time said the victim’s facial injuries would be permanent without significant cosmetic dental repair.

A warrant for Yarbrough’s arrest was issued on August 15th; he was located and booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2am Sunday. He could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted on a Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury charge.

A no-contact order was requested.
