An area transient was taken into custody on an arrest warrant stemming from an alleged theft from an outdoors store last month.

Police say 51-year-old Robert Truelsen was at the Fin and Feather on May 12th just before 2:30pm when he reportedly removed a Jetboil Sumo camping stove from its box and concealed it in his coat pocket. The empty box was allegedly placed under a fixture, and Truelsen walked out of the store with no attempt to purchase the item, valued at nearly $180.

A check of criminal records showed Truelsen had two prior misdemeanor theft convictions, in 2019 and 2023.

A warrant was issued on May 24th, and Truelsen was arrested Sunday. He’s now charged with 3rd degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years. He was released on his own recognizance and an attorney was appointed by the court ahead of future appearances.
