A series of erratic behaviors has landed an area transient in jail.

The incidents began a little after 7:30 Friday morning, when 38-year-old Kofi Adu-Sarkodie was observed stealing sunglasses from HyVee Gas on Stevens Drive.  An employee tried to take a picture of him to show police, but Adu-Sarkodie allegedly smacked the employee’s hand.

About fifteen minutes later, Adu-Sarkodie reportedly walked into Kirkwood Liquor and Tobacco and took a bottle of Seagram’s Gin without paying.  The bottle retailed for $5.99.

Adu-Sarkodie’s final stop was the Bread Garden Market, where he had been trespassed from a month ago.  He allegedly took a bicycle owned by an employee, and then rode it around the inside of the restaurant. When asked to leave, he got off the bike and pushed it into an employee. Adu-Sarkodie remained on scene until officers arrived and arrested him.  The bicycle, valued at $550, was given back to the owner.  Adu-Sarkodie was reportedly wearing the sunglasses that he stole earlier that morning.

He was charged with 3rd degree theft and assault for the incident at HyVee; 3rd degree theft for the Kirkwood Liquor and Tobacco incident, and 4th degree Theft for the Bread Garden incident. If convicted on all counts from Friday morning, Adu-Sarkodie faces a jail sentence of up to over five years.
