A North Liberty man faces several charges after being stopped for an equipment violation earlier this week.

21-year-old Shawn Fulton of Holiday Lodge Road was reportedly pulled over near the intersection of Zeller Street and Sugar Creek Wednesday afternoon for not wearing his seatbelt.  The officer ran his license and found his driving status as not valid.

A strong odor of raw marijuana was allegedly emanating from Fulton’s vehicle, and a probable cause search was conducted. Officers allegedly found approximately 57 grams of raw marijuana, 6 grams of THC Vape pens, packaging material, and a digital scale.

A loaded weapon with an extended magazine containing 9 rounds was also reportedly found in the vehicle. Fulton’s criminal record includes a Felony for controlled substance possession.

Fulton was arrested and faces one count each of Marijuana possession, Dominion or Control of a Weapon by a Felon, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, and Failure to Affix Drug Stamp. He could be sentenced to 16 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
