A Coralville woman who allegedly came at her boyfriend with a knife during an argument last month has been taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued.

According to the arrest report, 18-year-old Nakyah McDonald of 23rd Avenue Place got into an argument with her boyfriend at his mom’s Iowa City apartment the afternoon of May 25th, and reportedly yelled that he broke one of her fingernails. She then reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and started chasing her boyfriend around the apartment. The boyfriend’s sister was able to get the knife from McDonald to diffuse the situation.

McDonald then allegedly took some of her boyfriend’s items and threw them into an outside dumpster. When she attempted to go back into the apartment, the boyfriend tried to stop her. McDonald reportedly pushed her way back into the apartment.

A warrant was issued on May 28th, and McDonald was arrested Monday. She’s been charged with 2nd degree Burglary and Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.

A no contact order was issued by Judge Brandon Schrock during McDonald’s initial appearance. She was released to the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services pending future court dates.
