Davenport man charged in connection with 2022 hotel paycheck scam scheme

A Davenport man is the latest individual charged as being part of a scheme involving fraudulent paychecks being cashed from a Coralville hotel.

Management at the Quality Inn on West 9th Street became aware that multiple fraudulent paychecks had been forged and withdrawn from the hotel and its parent company, Pranam Corporation’s business account a Citizens State Bank.

Investigation revealed that on March 22nd 2022, 31-year old Michael Agiular deposited a forged payroll check for $950 from Quality Inn labeled “paycheck” into his Veridian Credit Union account using mobile deposit.  Agiular was never employed by Pranam Corporation or Quality Inn.

A warrant was issued on May 1st; he was arrested Sunday and faces Forgery and 3rd degree Theft charges. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.
