Suspects in Muscatine police chase/shooting identified

Authorities have identified the two suspects accused of leading police on a chase in Muscatine that ended in an officer-involved shooting.

On Thursday, the two men were identified by the Iowa Department of Public Safety as 29-year-old Isidro Barajas Jr. and 33-year-old Juan Aldo Beltran Delgado, both of Muscatine.

According to arrest records, the Muscatine County Drug Task Force began the process of serving a search warrant at approximately 3:30 Wednesday afternoon when Barajas and Beltran Delgado fled the scene in a vehicle. A high-speed pursuit ensued, and the vehicle was reportedly involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 61 and Cedar Street around 3:40 pm.

Several gunshots were fired, and Barajas and Beltran Delgado are now receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The Drug Task Force Officer who fired their weapon has been placed on critical incident leave pending the completion of the investigation. The name of the officer will be released upon completion of the interview. The case will be referred to the Muscatine County Attorney’s office for review upon completion of the investigation.
