Area transient arrested after failing to cooperate with assault investigation

An area transient was taken into custody early Monday morning after allegedly refusing to identify himself and to follow officer commands.

The incident occurred just before 2am on the 400 block of South Linn Street. Police stopped 19-year-old Demario Ray Salter as part of an assault investigation.  He allegedly refused to identify himself, had another person’s ID in his possession, and refused officer commands to turn around an put his hands behind his back.

Ray Salter was taken into custody and charged with Harassment of a Public Official and Interference With Official Acts. He could face a jail sentence of up to 60 days if convicted on both counts.
