The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has tentatively confirmed tornadoes in the area as a result of Friday’s storms.

A survey team found damage consistent with an EF-1 tornado just west of Delta Iowa in Keokuk County early Friday morning. Estimated winds of around 100 miles per hour caused significant damage to trees and outbuildings.

Later, an EF-1 tornado occurred from Wellman to the Frytown area, damaging trees and outbuildings. Winds were measured up to 100 miles per hour.

Another EF-1 tornado popped up from Riverside to Downey that damaged trees and outbuildings, and did minor damage to a home.

The rain has caused some rivers and creeks to rise; the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids is in minor flood stage at 12.29 feet and is expected to drop below action stage by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

The Iowa River at Iowa City remains below action stage at 19.4 feet. It is not expected to rise above that level for the remainder of the month.

The US Army Corps of Engineers have temporarily increased the outflow at Coralville Lake, which has closed the Iowa River Trail at the Highway 6 underpass, just south of Riverfront Crossings Park.

The Corps has also closed the beach at Sugar Bottom Campground due to high E. Coli levels.  The Corps is testing the water weekly and will provide an update when levels are back within normal ranges.
