An Iowa City woman is accused of stealing over $17,000 from a Coralville hotel in a forged check scheme.

Coralville Police say the Pranam Corporation, which owns Quality Inn on West 9th Street, reported in April of 2022 that multiple fraudulent payroll checks had been forged and withdrawn from the company account at Citizen’s State Bank. The total loss to the company was $17,594.32.

An investigation determined that 40-year-old Conny Stucker of North Dodge Street had deposited three forged Quality Inn payroll checks totaling $2,310 using mobile apps from various banks. The checks were labeled “Paycheck”, “Housekeeping” and “Front Desk”. Stucker has never worked for Quality Inn or the Pranam Corporation.

Stucker is charged with 2nd Degree Theft and Forgery. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of ten years in prison.

No other suspects in the case have been publicly identified by police.
