A suspect accused of possessing hundreds of child pornography images in Iowa City has been given a two-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal.

Judge Jason Burns passed down the sentence to 31-year-old Christopher Pohlman of Westgate Street on Monday. Pohlman was arrested last month after police say he knowingly promoted visual depictions of minors engaging in sex acts by transmitting photos over Tumblr beginning on November 7th, 2020.

Additionally, beginning in September of 2018, Pohlman allegedly collected approximately 1,200 images and videos depicting children engaged in sex acts.  Investigators reportedly found the images in social media data and digital devices associated with Pohlman.

Pohlman pleaded guilty to the initial charges of Purchase or Depiction of Minors Involved in a Sex Act and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.  He could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

In addition to the two-year prison sentence, Pohlman must also appear on The Iowa Sex Offender Registry for ten years, and he was given five years of probation upon his release from prison.
