An Iowa City woman was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated earlier this month after allegedly being found in her vehicle after striking a house.

At approximately 3:39am May 4th, 23-year-old Karina Lopez Garcia of Nevada Avenue was driving a 2003 Corolla and reportedly failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway near the intersection of Nor Street and Wetherby Drive, drove through a fence, and struck a house. A neighbor called 911 and the arriving officer allegedly found Lopez Garcia passed out in the driver’s seat.

After Fire Department personnel woke her up, she reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol.  Lopez Garcia allegedly admitted to drinking and was wearing a bar wristband.

Over an hour after the crash, she reportedly provided a PBT showing her breath-alcohol level at .216 percent.

Lopez Garcia was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
