The University of Iowa has confirmed that Mayflower Residence Hall is no longer for sale.

KCJJ first reported in March that the North Dubuque Street property had been taken off the market after it was put up for sale last year. At the time, UI representatives said they made the move due to record-level housing applications and space needed for first-year students. School officials said they planned upgrades to the building, including more study lounges. The news also came on the heels of the announcement that Parklawn Residence Hall would not be available for the 2024-25 academic year.

UI officials now confirm a spike in student interest in living on campus led them to keep Mayflower as a university residence hall.

The University opted to put Mayflower on the market last year due to a report indicating residents there had lower grade point averages among first-year students than their peers in dorms closer to campus.
