A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a car burglary at the Hawk Ridge Apartments.
52-year-old Trevor Gast was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9:30 Tuesday morning. Iowa City Police say Gast and 38-year-old Bridget Dual broke into a vehicle at the Hawk Ridge Apartments during the overnight hours of January 5th. The two, who live together on Sycamore Street, reportedly stole over $2,000 worth of merchandise from a parked car.  Search warrants were granted, and the two were found in possession of some of the stolen items from the vehicle, including an iPad that had Dual’s phone number entered in an attempt to gain access to the victim’s bank accounts. Video allegedly exists showing the two leaving the area of the burglary together.
Gast and Dual are also accused of using a card stolen from a vehicle to illegally purchase nearly $400 worth of items on November 23rd at Casey’s on Highway 965 in North Liberty, and an additional purchase at a local Walmart on November 25th for nearly the same amount.
Gast is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle – 2nd or Subsequent Offense, 4th Degree Theft, and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. Dual faces the same charges, as well as a second count of 4th Degree Theft and two more counts of credit card fraud.
Gast faces a maximum of eight years in prison if convicted on all counts, while Dual could be sentenced to a maximum of 13 years behind bars.
