The suspect in an Iowa City sexual abuse case involving minors faces new charges after new, similar allegations have surfaced.

43-year-old Munga Sapo of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community was already being held at the Johnson County Jail on numerous charges. Iowa City Police say they have since become aware of other sexual assault incidents involving Sapo. One alleged victim was in seventh grade when Sapo reportedly committed sex acts on her in his residence and inside a car last year. Another reported victim was between 11 and 12 years of age when Sapo allegedly sexually assaulted her on consecutive days last year. He allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she told her mother.

Sapo is also accused of assaulting a 15-year-old boy by trying to strangle him. The boy said Sapo was drunk at the time of the incident.

Sapo is already accused of assaulting his wife and sexually abusing two other children. In total, he faces eight counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse, three counts of 1st Degree Harassment, two counts of Incest, and one count apiece of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Assault With Intent to Commit Serious Injury, and Child Endangerment. If convicted on all charges, Sapo faces a maximum sentence of 231 years in prison.
