For the second time in less than two months, a warrant has been issued for a suspect charged in connection with a Christmas morning shots fired incident near downtown Iowa City.
Online court records show Judge Jason Burns issued the warrant for the arrest of 22-year-old Gupreet Singh on Tuesday, although there is no indication of the reason behind it. The move comes two months after another suspect in the case, 25-year-old Satnam Singh, skipped his arraignment. Judge Brandon Shrock issued a warrant on March 19th for that incident, and Singh remains at large.
The Singhs are two of three suspects accused of recklessly discharging firearms just before 2:15 last Christmas morning outside an apartment building on the 500 block of East Burlington Street. The third man charged in the case is 21-year-old Bhupi Singh. Satnam and Gupreet Singh both live in the building, while Bhupi Singh lives on 6th Avenue in Coralville.
The incident, which was caught on video, triggered a HawkAlert from the University of Iowa.
All three suspects are charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm and Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime. If convicted on both charges, the Singhs each face a maximum of 25 months in jail.
Bhupi Singh still has a case management conference scheduled for May 30th.
