Iowa City Police say a drunk driving suspect abandoned his car after crashing it Sunday night.
Officers were waved down by two bystanders on Southgate Avenue just after 7:00. They reported a subject had crashed his car in the Shelter House parking lot and walked away. The man in question, 28-year-old Jesus Ortiz Joaquin of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community, was stopped by police as he was walking eastbound on Southgate. He reportedly showed multiple signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking six Modelo beers. Police say Ortiz Joaquin performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused Datamaster testing.
Ortiz Joaquin is charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
