A convicted armed robber faces new weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop in Iowa City.
30-year-old Soloman Marshall was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. According to arrest records, Iowa City Police conducted a traffic stop on Marshall’s 2012 Chevy Tahoe on the 2200 block of Muscatine Avenue just before 6:45 p.m. on December 18th of last year. Investigators say a search of Marshall’s person turned up a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun with an extended magazine in his coat pocket. Marshall was also allegedly in possession of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.
A search warrant executed at Marshall’s apartment on Highway 1 West reportedly turned up digital scales and drug packaging, several baggies of marijuana, and powders that eventually tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine. A warrant executed on his Facebook account allegedly showed he was actively engaged in the distribution of controlled substances.
Marshall is charged with Possession of a Firearm By a Felon, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Keeping Premises for the Use of Controlled Substances, three Controlled Substance Violations, two Drug Tax Stamp Violations, and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 60 years in prison.
Marshall was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2019 after he shot another man during an armed robbery on 7th Avenue in Coralville.
