An Iowa City man wanted on an assault warrant was taken into custody this week.

Police say 33-year-old Percy Williams of Eastbrooke Drive was in the area of Brighton Green and Durham Street on April 8th at approximately 6:45pm when the incident took place.  Williams allegedly cocked his fist back and punched the victim directly in the face on the right eye.

The assault was reportedly witnessed by a passerby, who stayed with the victim to assist until police arrived.  Williams left the scene in a white Pontiac, but neither the witness or the victim could get the plate number.

Williams reportedly is revoked from driving due to a previous OWI.

A warrant was issued on April 16th; Williams was taken into custody Tuesday. He faces an Assault with Intent to inflict Serious Injury charge, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted. A no contact order between the two parties was issued by Judge Brandon Schrock on Wednesday.
