Iowa City woman charged with assault after incident in Coralville restaurant

An Iowa City woman was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a man at a Coralville restaurant.

The incident reportedly took place at the Taco Johns on James Street at approximately 7:50pm. 45-year-old Natalie Roberts allegedly threw a condiment packet at the man and slapped him on the back of his neck in front of multiple witnesses.  The victim reported his pain level at about a 5 or 6 out of 10.

When officers arrived, Roberts was reportedly in the driver’s seat of a GMC Terrain with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.  She allegedly admitted to driving with her children to the restaurant despite having a driving status of barred as an habitual offender.

Roberts was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 2nd offense and Driving While Barred. If convicted on both counts, she faces a jail sentence of up to four years.

A no-contact order was requested between the involved parties.
