An Iowa City man has been arrested after allegedly strangling the mother of their two children.
According to the police report, the woman was reproaching 37-year-old Emery Bakwanzilla of Broadway Street for not assisting with child care. He allegedly began pushing the woman, who is pregnant with their child. She suffered multiple abrasions to her face, arms and hands.
Bakwanzila also reportedly used his forearm to apply pressure to her throat, causing her difficulty in breathing.
He was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow and Child endangerment. If convicted on both counts, he faces a prison sentence of up to seven years.
