An area transient was taken into custody earlier this week after multiple reports of public drunkenness.

37-year-old Mancel Murphy was located on the 1800 block of Boyrum Street Wednesday at around 6:25pm after being called in for the third time in an hour for undisclosed reasons. Upon contact, he showed measurable signs of intoxication, including bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of ingested alcohol.  Murphy agreed to a PBT and showed a BAC of .169 percent.

A post arrest search allegedly located a baggie with suspected marijuana inside his pants pocket.

Murphy was charged with public intoxication and first offense marijuana possession. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.

A check of court records shows a history of public intoxication charges in Murphy’s past.
