A fan-favorite band from the area is reuniting to help support a fan’s trip to this year’s Transplant Games.

Kevin “BF” Burt and the Blues Instigators roared onto the Eastern Iowa music scene nearly thirty-five years ago. Their enthusiastic performances quickly became the stuff of legend, with nearly all of the original band members still performing. During April’s Donate Life Month, they’ll reunite to support superfan and friend of the band, Myron Thirtle, as he prepares to participate in this year’s Transplant Games. The longtime Kalona resident donated a kidney to his late father in August of 2000 and is a tireless advocate for organ donation. This July, Myron will travel to Birmingham, AL to compete in the games.

The Blues Instigators had planned a reunion fundraiser in 2020 but were thwarted by the COVID pandemic.

The Blues Instigators haven’t performed together since 2016 and all of the original members will be present with the exception of guitarist Jon Klinkowitz.

The “Do it for Myron Benefit” will be held Sunday April 28, at Wildwood BBQ & Saloon, 4914 Walleye Dr SE, near I-80 Exit 249 at Hoover Highway.

The lineup features The Tanya English Band at 4:00, with sets to follow each hour from Kevin “BF” Burt and Matt Panek. The Blues Instigators play their reunion set at 7:00pm, featuring original members Dan Laughlin, Jeffrey Daniels, Ed English and Eric Madison.

Other members of bands who have played with Kevin, and in all the other bands created over the years, are invited to attend. An open jam will close the evening.

Suggested donation at the door is $10; a silent auction will also be held.

The event is sponsored in part by KCJJ Radio and 99pluskfmh.com .
