The Iowa Department of Education opens the Students First Education Savings Account program application window for the 2024-25 school year today.
The Students First Act is more commonly known as the School Voucher Bill. It was introduced by Governor Kim Reynolds and signed into law in January 2023. It allows state monies earmarked for public education to be diverted to accredited nonpublic schools by parents.
This year, incoming kindergarteners and all K-12 students currently attending a public school who want to enroll in an accredited nonpublic school for the 2024-25 school year are eligible regardless of family income. Those that are currently enrolled in a nonpublic school and didn’t get an ESA will now be eligible if their household income is at or below 400% of the 2024 Federal Poverty Level. That translates to $124,800 for a family of four.
The application window closes at the end of the day on June 30th. Online applications can be found at www.educate.iowa.gov
