North Liberty Police say a drunk driving suspect head-butted one of their officers during an attempted arrest early Saturday morning.
Arrest records indicate a 2009 Chevy Suburban being driven by 32-year-old DeAngelo Smith of Jaro Way was speeding on Front Street before parking on Jaro Way. Officers confronted Smith, who reportedly smelled of ingested alcohol and showed signs of intoxication. Police say Smith had a hard time remembering things that had happened.
Smith was taken into custody, although police say he physically resisted, including head-butting an officer. He was eventually pepper-sprayed.
Smith is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Interference With Official Acts, Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Driving While Barred, and Driving While Revoked. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over nine years in prison.
