This year in honor of Earth Day, Iowa City will be hosting the annual Neighborhood Energy Blitz on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Volunteers are needed to help go door-to-door delivering energy-saving kits to homes in the Washington Hills Neighborhood.
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Lemme Elementary and will serve on teams that will cover walking routes of approximately two miles. Participants can sign up for either a morning shift from 9 a.m. to noon, an afternoon shift from 2:30-5:30 p.m., or both. In the afternoon, volunteers will return to pick up kit boxes containing used light bulbs and batteries for safe disposal and recycling.
Helpers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children younger than 14 years old should be accompanied by an adult. Virtual training for all volunteers will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
