A Shelter House resident was taken into custody early Monday after allegedy assaulting a police officer who woke him up while he was sleeping in a downtown Iowa City parking ramp.
Police reportedly observed 34-year-old Jerry Dale sleeping in the Court Street ramp at approximately 12:50am When they attempted to wake him up, Dale allegedly became aggressive, making threats and throwing a 2-liter bottle that nearly struck an officer.
Dale reportedly disobeyed commands and continued to make threats towards officers and was taken into custody. A one-hitter pipe with marijuana residue was allegedly found in a post-arrest search.
Dale faces charges of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
