A Cedar Rapids man who stabbed a Black woman to death with a kitchen knife has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
The Gazette reports 38-year-old Shane Teslik was found guilty Monday after two days of deliberations.
Prosecutors say Teslik provoked 29-year-old Deonna Walker during a January 2023 argument by calling her a racial slur before she ran at him and punched him in the face, and he responded by stabbing her to death.
Teslik faces up to ten years in jail and a required $150,000 in restitution to Walker’s family when he’s sentenced June 7th.
