Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of a nationwide tornado outbreak that saw damage in Johnson County.
29 of the almost 150 tornadoes confirmed that day were in the National Weather Service Quad Cities Warning Area. That makes it the largest tornado outbreak in the area since records began being kept in 1950.
The strongest tornado developed southwest of Keota and moved northeast towards Wellman before finally dissipating in far southwestern Johnson County.  It was rated EF4 with maximum sustained winds estimated around 170 mph, making it the strongest tornado in the Quad Cities forecast area since 1995.
One EF-2 tornado formed near Hills and moved northeast, striking the KCJJ studios before dissipating near Sioux Avenue. That funnel snapped several power poles, knocking KCJJ off the air for several hours before REC replaced the poles the next day.
There were 11 reported injuries in the Quad Cities forecast area with no fatalities.
