A Washington Iowa woman already wanted on a theft warrant was arrested after reportedly being behind the wheel of a vehicle without license plates Monday afternoon.

Officers stopped 30-year-old Kaitlyn Shapcott near the intersection of Keokuk and Crosspark at 5:15pm for the violation and learned that she had an active arrest warrant. When she exited the vehicle, Shapcott allegedly dropped a THC cartridge to the ground.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a glass pipe used for smoking meth. A search of her person turned up four suspected gabapentin pills in Shapcott’s jacket that allegedly weren’t prescribed to her. A check of her arrest records found two previous drug convictions out of Washington County.

Shapcott was wanted for allegedly depositing three checks into the Veridian Credit Union branch ATM on the Coralville Strip September 23rd and withdrawing cash from a teller inside. All three checks turned out to be returned for insufficient funds, and Shapcott reportedly did not respond to demand of payment letters. The credit union suffered a loss of $2900.

A warrant was issued on October 23rd.

Shapcott was taken into custody and charged with 3rd offense Drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. With the theft warrant, she could be sentenced to a total of over ten years in prison if convicted on all counts.
