An Iowa City man was arrested last week after he allegedly struck his wife while she was holding their infant child.

The incident occurred on the 200 block of North Scott Boulevard at around 9pm March 19th.  The woman contacted police two days later about the alleged assault, and stated that she and 35-year-old George Parks, her husband, got into an argument.  During the argument, she alleged Parks struck her in the face with a closed fist while she was holding their nine-month-old baby.  Parks allegedly caused her to be knocked on the bed, landing on the child. He then reportedly held her down by her arms and hit her arm.

Police say the woman had injuries consistent with her narrative, and she reportedly provided text messages from Parks apologizing to her for hitting her.  When interviewed, Parks admitted to hitting his wife, but only as a reaction to her having her hand up as if she was going to hit him.

The couple have two children together.

Parks was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and Child Endangerment. He could be sentenced to up to 3 years in jail if convicted on both counts.
