Iowa City Police say a “large amount” of ecstasy was found after a suspect fled a traffic stop late Saturday night.

Arrest records indicate officers pulled over a 2021 Honda CRV near Panda Express on Highway 1 West just after 10:00 p.m. The driver reportedly fled from the vehicle, but he was captured after a brief foot chase. He was identified as 28-year-old Deandre Davis of Broadway Street. Davis allegedly showed signs of intoxication and refused all field sobriety, blood, urine, and breath testing.

Police say they located a baggie containing a “large amount of MDMA pills” inside the car.  Davis is now charged with a Class B Controlled Substance Violation, a Drug Tax Stamp Violation, Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Interference With Official Acts, and Driving While Barred. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 34 years in prison.
