The Linn-Mar School District will be cutting 50 jobs for the 2024-25 school year.

A letter from Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer revealed that 19 full-time teaching positions and 31 classified positions will be eliminated amid budget cuts.

The district said they would have to cut $2.5 million from next school year’s budget, despite cutting approximately $3 million for the current school year. Expiring COVID-19 funding, low funding from the state legislature and declining enrollment were cited as reasons for the cuts.

In the letter, Kortemeyer said, “We do not make these decisions lightly, as each and every staff member serving our schools provides exceptional value to our students and families. However, we must take action to balance our budget and meet our obligation to maintain a healthy financial decision.”

The state legislature has yet to pass an education budget. Governor Kim Reynolds proposed a 2.5% increase, while the House passed a 3% bill. The Senate has yet to complete the legislation.
