A Coralville man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm after being convicted of domestic assault.
Police were called to the 10th Street Court residence of 52-year-old Carl Host during the midnight hour of March 21st last year on reports of a man wanting to harm himself with a firearm. Upon arrival, Host told deputies that the firearm was inside his residence and that they could have it.
Host reportedly told authorities that he obtained the firearm by buying it off the street for $400 and had possession of the firearm prior to their arrival. The firearm was allegedly loaded when recovered.
Host is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm due to prior convictions for domestic abuse.
Charges were brought against Host last week, and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail on Tuesday. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted on the charge, Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuser.
