A convicted felon residing in Riverside was arrested after it was found he allegedly falsified information in order to obtain a weapon.

According to the incident report, 50-year-old Jason Hartsock has a 2nd degree Theft conviction from an incident in July 1996 and as such is prevented from owning or possessing a weapon. On November 24th last year, he allegedly attempted to purchase a handgun from Fin and Feather on Highway 1 West at approximately 10am.

When Hartsock filled out the application to purchase the handgun, he marked “no” to the question of whether he had ever been convicted of a felony.  He later reportedly admitted that he knew of the felony conviction.

A warrant was issued for Hartsock’s arrest on January 22nd; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail on Monday and charged with providing False Information in Acquiring a Weapon.  If convicted on the charge, Hartsock could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. He was released on his own recognizance by judge Jason Burns on Tuesday, pending future court dates.
