Trial begins in child sexual abuse case involving Coralville day care co-owner

Trial begins today in the case of a former Coralville City Council member’s husband who was charged with the sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 14.

According to the original criminal complaint, the incidents occurred between June 1st and November 19th of 2021.  63-year-old Jeffrey Dodds of 12th Avenue, who co-owned Simple Abundance Child Care with his wife Jill Dodds, was accused of committing sexual abuse on the child when she was in the couple’s care at their home address.

KCRG TV reported  that the business cared for 12 children ranging in age from birth to five years. The accused previously worked as an EMT and firefighter.

Dodds was taken into custody on April 18th 2022 and charged with three counts of 2nd degree Sexual Abuse. He could be sentenced to up to 75 years in prison if convicted .

Jeffrey’s wife, Jill Dodds, had been on the Coralville City Council since 2012 when she resigned amid the charges against her husband.
