A Solon man was arrested early Monday after allegedly attacking an individual at his home once he realized they were trans.

According to the arrest report, 35-year-old Justin Lewis invited people he met at the American Legion to his house after it closed up for the night.  While they were at his residence, he reportedly engaged in a physical wrestling match with a person Lewis originally though was a girl but later found out was transgender.

The altercation escalated, resulting in the victim being transported to the hospital with a swollen discolored left eye and their face covered in blood.

When confronted, Lewis allegedly admitted to a sheriff’s deputy that he was angry when he found out the person was transgender.

Lewis was charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury in violation of Individual Rights, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
