The iconic Hawkeye water tower will no longer tower over Kinnick Stadium.

The Daily Iowan reports that the tower, with the University of Iowa Tigerhawk logo, will be torn down to make room for the new adult inpatient tower on the UI Hospitals and Clinics main campus.

The new tower’s construction cost is estimated at $10 million.

The current tower sits east of Kinnick Stadium; the new water tower will be built northwest of the football practice fields.  According to the DI, utility planning started in early January, but construction is not expected to finish until the end of 2025.

The water tower serves the entire campus and won’t be torn down until the new one is ready, assuring  continuous access to water at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the rest of the University. That means football fans, as well as patients at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital, will still be able to see the original tower through the 2025 season.
