A man from the south Chicago suburbs has been arrested after an alleged assault on his intimate partner.

Police say that 20-year-old Gary Jones and the woman had been in an intimate relationship for about three years, and had lived together within the last year.  He reportedly went to the woman’s residence on Friendship Street the morning of February 16th and confronted her about seeing someone else.

Jones allegedly assaulted the woman by slapping her and throwing her around. He’s also accused of threatening to pistol whip and kill the woman.  An attempt to contact the police was thwarted when Jones allegedly took the victim’s phone and hung up on her 911 call, delaying police response. She reportedly had to arm herself with a knife to make Jones leave her residence.

A warrant for Jones’ arrest was issued on February 20th,  and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Saturday. He face Domestic Abuse Assault, 1st degree Harassment and Obstruction of Emergency Communications charges and could be sentenced to up to three years in jail if convicted on all counts.  Judge Jason Burns issued a no-contact order between the parties, and a public defender was appointed to represent Jones.
