A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll says that Donald Trump would handily defeat Joe Biden for the presidency if the election were held today.
The Register polled 640 likely Iowa voters between February 25th and 28th, who chose Trump over Biden, 48 to 33 percent. The remainder mostly said that they would vote for someone else. A small percentage indicated they wouldn’t vote at all, or are still unsure.
Trump won the state by 8 points in Iowa back in 2020.
Biden’s approval ratings in Iowa have dropped slightly from last year, from 30 percent to 29 percent. He had a 47 percent approval rating in the poll back in March 2021.
Nearly 80 percent of respondents say the country is on the wrong track, with 95 percent of the Republicans polled agreeing with that statement.
The Iowa Poll also shows likely voters have more concerns about Joe Biden’s age and ability to run the country than Donald Trump’s. 56 percent believe Biden is too old to serve a second term, while only 42 percent believe Trump is too old to be President.
The poll indicates Iowa is divided on their impressions of the former president, but over two-thirds have an unfavorable view of Biden.
