The Iowa City Community School District has announced that all of their buildings will be offering some form of preschool beginning this fall.
The Daily Iowan reports that 17 of the 21 buildings already offer the program, but the expansion became an option when the decision was made to move sixth-graders to middle school.
Half-day 4-year-old preschool will be offered in every elementary school, and a full day option will be available at Grant Elementary in North Liberty and Lemme and Weber Elementary in Iowa City.
Eliza Proctor is the Executive Director of Elementary Schools for the district. She told the DI that applications for the half- and full-day preschool options have increased from around 150 families to 425 applications since they announced the change to the program.
Half-day programs remain free, with full-day preschool costing $650 a month.
