A Nichols man has been arrested after allegedly passing a movie prop $50 bill at an Iowa City convenience store.

Police say the evening of February 7th, 24-year-old Kevin Ramirez used a “Motion Picture Only” prop bill that looked very similar to a legitimate $50 to a clerk at the Kum & Go on South Riverside Drive in exchange for merchandise and change.  The clerk reportedly checked the bill with a counterfeit marker and still passed.

Ramirez purchased a little over $21 in goods, and got the rest back in change. He was identified by authorities after he allegedly left his wallet behind. Inside was his Iowa driver’s license, several cards with his name on them, and another motion picture prop bill, this one for $100.

A warrant was issued for Ramirez’ arrest, and he was arrested this week. He faces a Forgery charge, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
