An Iowa City man who reached a plea deal on several drug charges has been arrested after failing to show up to begin his sentence.

On April 5th, police executed a search warrant on 32-year-old Dustin Kreimeyer’s residence and person. His backpack reportedly contained over 24 grams of meth, along with a digital scale and packing material. Kreimeyer allegedly admitted that the items were his and that he sold meth. A review of his cellphone showed evidence of him selling the drug.

Kreimeyer was then stopped by police the evening of April 8th by the Waterfront HyVee and picked up on a warrant. A subsequent search incident to his arrest allegedly turned up over 12 grams of suspected marijuana, over 10 grams of suspected meth, a clear glass pipe with residue, bags used for storing narcotics and a scale.  Kreimeyer reportedly admitted all the items recovered were his.

Kreimeyer was charged with several controlled substance counts, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to affix tax stamp. If convicted on all charges, Kreimeyer could have been sentenced to over 72 years in prison. A plea deal was reached on October 24th where he pleaded guilty to two counts of Failure to Affix Drug Stamp and was sentenced to two five-year prison terms to be run concurrently.

Kreimeyer asked the court to delay the beginning of his prison sentence for three days and agreed to the court issuing another arrest warrant for him if he failed to turn himself in on the agreed-upon date.

Kreimeyer failed to show and avoided arrest until this week. He now faces a future unscheduled court date where additional prison time could be added.
